Introducing the Web3 looking glass π
Regular reflections on what's happening in Web3, and why it matters
Yes, friend, one more for your inbox. Sorry.
I set a goal this year to write my way towards more precise thinking. I'm using you to hold myself to it. Thank you. Please believe that I won't be remotely offended if you skip, filter, unsubscribe, challenge, or roundly reject the reflections to follow.
If youβre included here itβs because I thought you might actually find the content interesting. What content? I've spent the past 4 years working on new technologies for managing our identities and data online. This is part of a broader set of technologies and ideas collectively referred to as "Web3." My aim here is to share regular, short, simple, and hopefully poignant synopses on:
What is happening right now in the "Web3" space, and
Why it matters for all people, products, and companies on the web
I am down the proverbial rabbithole. It's a dizzying one. And those of us down here don't usually do a great job sharing with others what we see and why we're so excited. We mix bold, sweeping claims about the future of the Internet with buzzwords like "blockchain" and "self-sovereign." Then we try to 'clarify' with hyper-specific, jargon-filled technical explanations. Richard Feynman said, "If you can't explain something in simple terms, you don't understand it." We need to make it clearer to everyone, starting with ourselves, how this technology will make its mark.
I'm writing these posts to deepen my own understanding. Each post will tackle one very concrete topic - a new advancement, trend, or illustrative use case - and break down what it is and why it matters. The perspective will be my own: lots of attention on product, market, and operating; less on engineering and trading. I'll try not to focus on big sweeping claims or technical details, but both should become clearer if I choose and cover my topics well.
I am sure these reflections will help my thinking. If you are interested in the Web3 rabbithole but not yet down here, I hope it can be a helpful looking glass for you as well.
Best,
Danny
